Regents Approve 2025-26 Tuition Increase for University of Iowa Students

The Iowa Board of Regents has approved a tuition increase for University of Iowa students to address inflationary costs and to maintain the quality of education Iowans expect.

At its June 12 meeting, the board approved a $279 increase to undergraduate base tuition for resident and nonresident students. For graduate students, the approved tuition increase is $350 for both resident and nonresident students. The increases will take effect at the start of the fall 2025 semester for all students.

“A University of Iowa education remains one of the most accessible and valuable investments students can make in their future,” says Kevin Kregel, executive vice president and provost. “This tuition increase will help sustain the programs, support services, and learning environments that position our students for long-term success.”

For the 2025-26 academic year, the Board of Regents requested a $10 million increase in state funding for the UI to create a rural health care partnership. The Iowa Legislature approved a $1 million increase for the UI, which will go toward cancer research.

Undergraduate resident tuition and fees at Iowa remain among the most affordable for students in the university’s peer group.
